Mayor Jimmy Durbin hands Denham Springs High School junior Kyle Patterson an iTunes download card as a reward because he was wearing his seat belt as he left campus Wednesday afternoon. Students spotted by City Police got the cards if they were wearing their seat belts. (Click here for full story)

Denham Council approves Willow Woods Park

DENHAM SPRINGS - Councilman Lori Lamm-Williams tried unsuccessfully Wednesday to change landscape plans for 11 donated acres next to The Willows subdivision.

BP America Production Company donated the land to the city in 2007, on the condition that it be used solely for recreation. The company also gave the city $15,000 for planting the area, which is now bare, boggy and a haven for mosquitoes. (Click here for full story)

DENHAM SPRINGS - Councilmen approved a $7,200 contract with Pierce Creative Marketing Service Monday to upgrade the city's website within 10 weeks.

"The city needs an Internet presence with comprehensive information to assist our business community, offer more conveniences to benefit residents, such as online permit applications and bill-paying, which will also help streamline daily operations at City Hall," according to a memorandum by Denham Springs Councilman Annie Fugler. Three Amigos Share Historic Moment
Denham Springs Mayor Jimmy Durbin, Denham Springs City Councilwoman Annie Fugler and longtime City Court Judge Chuck Borde shared a special moment January 2 after city officials took their oaths of office for 2009 in Denham Springs City Court.

Mayor Durbin introduced Fugler as new council member and Borde administered the oath. After swearing her in, Borde gave her a hug, explaining to the packed courtroom that he, Durbin and Fugler were lifelong friends and members of the 1965 graduating class of Denham Springs High School.

Mayor appoints Fugler to Denham Springs council seat

DENHAM SPRINGS — The City Council approved the mayor’s choice of Annie Fugler on Tuesday to serve as an interim member of the council.

The council also set an April 4 special election to fill the seat vacated Monday by Jerry Denton, who resigned after winning election to the office of Ward 2 city marshal, which he takes over at the beginning of the year. (Click here for full story)

Recently renovated Old City Hall hosts council meeting

DENHAM SPRINGS —The City Council met Monday in Old City Hall for the first time in almost 40 years.

Some council members came wearing hats and period clothing from the days when the building, recently renovated, was the hub of political activity in the city.

Councilwoman Lori Lamm-Williams wore gloves and her grandmother’s pillbox hat in honor of her grandfather, who served as a councilman and later mayor in what is now called Old City Hall.

12 'Hearts of Community' honored at LA DOTD awards ceremony

For the second year, 12 women of substance, designated 2007 "Hearts of the Community" were honored at a recent reception at the LA DOTD Financial Resource Center on Range Ave. After a reading of Maya Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman," Alexis Anderson, director of LA DOTD's EARN Foundation, called them up one by one to receive a trophy and certificate from Denham Springs Mayor Jimmy Durbin.
